Scything Workshop- Spring 2025

Join us Saturday May 17th, 2025 from 10AM to 12PM for a Scything Workshop with Eric Zablowsky of Seven Generations Farm and Marty Castriotta of Village Roots Permaculture. .

Workshop features will include managing a homestead while cutting by hand, as well as utilizing biomass in annual and perennial gardens. Scything offers a peaceful experience connecting with the land, while utilizing your body’s natural movements to cut grass, hay, and even small brush.

Marty Castriotta from Village Roots Permaculture will also be discussing the importance of biomass production on both farm and global scales. Global biomass has been in steady decline for centuries, resulting in loss of biodiversity and species population decline. Home scale biomass production (including woody biomass) is an important strategy for productivity, carbon sequestration, and climate resilience.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own Scythes, if desired, as there may be time for practicing and working on technique.

Cost is $30-40, sliding scale.
